Assez rare et surtout porté dans le département du Nord, c'est un toponyme, variante de Hauterive (la haute rive), nom de nombreuses localités. Dans le Nord, deux hameaux s'appellent Hauterive, à Bruille-Saint-Amand et à Nivelles. Le nom de famille Hauterive se rencontre pour sa part surtout dans le Loir-et-Cher.
